Chapter Genesis & Focus

Forged at the Epicentre of India’s Mineral Renaissance

Founded in 1978 under the aegis of The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM, established 1946 in Kolkata), the Bhubaneswar Chapter was chartered to bridge high-rigor materials science with the monumental industrial wealth of Odisha. Odisha represents India’s primary mineral heartland, anchoring over half of the country’s bauxite, chromite, and iron reserves.

For nearly five decades, our fellows, scientists, and industrial members have steered major technological breakthroughs: moving from raw mineral extraction to ultra-pure titanium recovery, advanced alloy manufacturing, hydrometallurgical processing, and contemporary direct reduced iron (DRI) decarbonisation.

layers Iron & Steel Blast furnaces, DRI & green hydrogen reduction.
